There is a good chance you have never heard of the ashwagandha plant or ashwaganda roots. It is not a common plant, and the name is quite hard to pronounce, so you won't see it on Oprah any time soon. Well, maybe that's not true - the more that people learn about this super plant, the more likely it is to gain worldwide notoriety. As more research is being done on this ancient Indian plant, scientists and doctors are starting to realize the multitude of health benefits it offers and all the health disorders it cures. Here is some background information on ashwagandha.
Ashwagandha is a plant that grows primarily in India. The plant looks like a little shrub that has oddly shaped leaves. It produces an orange fruit that has a slightly acidic taste to it. But, the best part of the plant that gets the most use is the ashwaganda roots. The plants are pulled out of the ground, the foliage is removed and used for various purposes, and the roots are sold for medicinal purposes. By drying the roots and grinding them into a fine powder, you extract the prime medecinal value from this very potent plant.
The aswaganda benefits that you can attain from using the root of this plant are quite vast. It can be used to treat anything from fatigue to bone weakness and even memory loss. It truly is one of those magic compounds that can treat so many things that ail you. But, one of the most recent uses of this plant root is as an additive in Ayurvedic Roast Herbal Coffee. It is one of the three main herbal ingredients in this coffee substitute, and it gives it a distinctive taste along with offering the same health benefits as if you were to consume the root whole. Ayurvedic Roast contains only certified organic ashwagandha.
When talking about a relatively unknown compound, people always wonder if there are any side effects that they need to be aware of. Ashwagandha is considered safe for normal use. As with any herbal supplements, pregnant women, and people with pre existing conditions should consult their doctor first. If you want to improve your health and include some ashwagandha in your diet, the easiest way to do it is to start drinking Ayurvedic Roast Coffee. This great tasting coffee substitute offers the benefits of three unique herbs, is easy to drink, and contains no caffeine. Once you try it, you will never drink real coffee again!

Steep like tea or brew like coffee. Any way you do it, you'll be getting a tasty and healthy caffeine-free beverage!
Add 1 tablespoon for every 1 cup of pure water, and boil about 5-10 minutes. Strain and drink. Straining is optional, as the grounds will be soft and are edible. The longer it boils, the stronger it gets. Serve with milk or cream, or soymilk, rice milk, almond milk, or coconut milk.
This also works well, and produces a deep flavored cup. Use from 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon of Roast per cup (8 ounces) of water.
Pour boiling water into a coffee/tea press, and add the Roast. Then let sit for 5-10 minutes, depending on the strength desired.
Grind the Ayurvedic Roast in a coffee grinder, and then you're ready for the espresso machine!
Pour hot water into a cup containing 1-3 teaspoons (based on desired strength), and let sit for 3-5 minutes. The grounds will get soft, and can be eaten, as they are the barley, rye, and chicory root. Healthy!

This herbal coffee has an earthy, full bouqeut. Nicely aromatic. I've become addicted to it! Drinking this coffee alternative just makes me feel good!Garrick Ginzberg-Voskov
After being told that caffeine was significantly bad for us over 40's, and that decaf had bad effects on cholesterol, I decided to try the herbal coffee route. My wife and I have tried the 'other' herbal coffee and Ayurvedic Roast. We both enjoyed the slightly stronger coffee flavor and definitely less sweet flavor of the Ayurvedic Roast. It smells better out of the bag as well as during the brew process. It was easy to make in our drip coffee maker, and maintained flavor even when cold (yes, I drink cold coffee after hours of sitting around). While I have become hooked on the flavor of coffee, this substitute is sufficient to fool me with its own unique, in a good way, flavor.Bob Flanagan
